The organization was born in the 1990s when Tony Campolo, PhD - a former spiritual advisor to President Bill Clinton and Professor emeritus of Eastern University, sent a group of Eastern adjuncts & graduate students to assist a former Philadelphia Eagle with economic development projects in North Philadelphia, including a credit union and charter school. Since 1998, we have provided various forms of technical assistance to grassroots groups, including the formation of CDFIs, STEM education ecosystems, and social-impact projects.
